GUIDLINES FOR ISLAMIC MODEST DRESS
-
Covers the Whole Body
Allah commands women to cover themselves fully, except for the eyes if needed, so they are recognized as respectable and not harmed. (Al-Ahzab 33:59) -
Not an Adornment
Women should not show off their beauty or dress in a way that attracts attention. (An-Nur 24:31, Al-Ahzab 33:33) -
Thick, Not Transparent
The Prophet ﷺ warned against wearing see-through clothes, saying such women will be cursed and denied Paradise. (Muslim) -
Loose, Not Tight
Clothing should not reveal body shape. The Prophet ﷺ advised wearing an extra layer under thin garments. (Ahmad, Al-Baihaqi) -
Not Perfumed
A woman wearing perfume in public is likened to a fornicator. The Prophet ﷺ instructed women not to wear fragrance when going to the mosque. (An-Nasa’i, Abu Dawood, Muslim) -
Not Like Men’s Clothing
The Prophet ﷺ cursed men who dress like women and women who dress like men. (Abu Dawood, At-Tirmidhi) -
Not Like Disbelievers’ Clothing
Muslims should dress differently from non-believers, as imitating them is discouraged. (At-Tirmidhi, Abu Dawood) -
Not for Fame or Showing Off
Those who dress to seek attention will be humiliated by Allah on Judgment Day. (Abu Dawood, Ibn Majah)
